Facebook now claims 800 million users, with 50% logging in every day. Based on the current sign-up rate, iCrossings says Facebook will likely reach 1 billion users around August of this year. Should we start calling FB “Web 3.0″ now?
Some of us may remember when AOL looked like it had limitless growth – Web 1.5, if you will. Now, that service is in line to be just another footnote in Internet history, barring some massive turnaround.
Just a thought: if FB makes a huge virtual currency push, it could conceivably be counted as one of the world’s largest banks, in terms of depositors. Would it be ‘too big to virtually fail’?
